BENAULIM: St Anthony SC, Assolda got the better of Parish Youth Nuvem 4-2 to enter the quarter-finals of the 40th Cana-Benaulim Panchayat Cup 2016 organized by Cana-Benaulim Sporting Association, at St John Baptista ground, Dando-Benaulim, on Sunday.
At half time, St Anthony SC were leading 2-0.
St Anthony SC opened the account through Joseph Fernandes’ rasping drive in the 30th minute while Sunny Fernandes doubled the lead in the 40th minute.
Crossing over, St Anthony SC increased the goal tally with Benson Fernandes scoring a brace in the 50th and 55th minutes, to make it 4-0. Down by four goals, Parish Youth Nuvem did not give up and in the 66th minute reduced the margin with the efforts of Stephen Colaco.
This boosted the Parish Youth Nuvem spirit and soon started tormenting the rival citadel but found missed chances a galore.
In the dying minutes, Inacio Colaco made it 2-4 for Parish Youth Nuvem.
Earlier, Fr Eremito Coutinho, chaplain of Patricino Chapel, declared the tournament open in the presence of Anthony Pango, GFA executive member, Remmy Fernandes, sarpanch of V.P.Cana-Benaulim and Caetano.
