VASCO: St Anthony Sports Club Marna, Siolim sealed the last quarter-final slot of the 44th Bandodkar Memorial football tournament, organised by Baina Sports Club, after overcoming a tough challenge of Rossman Cruz, Nagoa-Verna 7-6 via the tie-breaker, played at MPT ground, Vasco, on Wednesday.
In the 11th minute, Dalesh Pednekar took his team ahead of a fine assist from Joel Fernandes. In the 45th minute, Pushparaj Mandrekar increased the lead after running solo from the midfield and rounded past the advancing Rossman goalkeeper Shubert Moniz to make it 2-0.
Changing over, Rossman Cruz came with renewed ideas and soon reduced the margin through Clive Coelho in the 51st minute.
In the dying minutes of the game, Rosman’s Clive Coelho completed his brace of a short pass from Remedios Vaz (2-2).
Both the teams were level 2-2 at the end of regulation period.
In the tie-breaker, Sherwin Lobo, Joel Fernnades, Dalesh Pednekar, Claudio Rodrigues and Sahil Chari were on target for St Anthony, Siolim. Only Savio Fernandes, Mack Faria, Shubart Moniz and Mariano Fernandes managed to score for Rossman. Clive Coelho of Rossman Cruz, Nagoa was adjudged the man of the match.
