PANJIM: St Anthony SC, Marna-Siolim edged past Betalbatim Sporting Club 2-1 to enter the final of the 42nd Bandodkar memorial football tournament organised by Baina Sports Club, at Tilak Maidan, Vasco, on Friday. The teams were locked 1-1 at the lemon break.
Betalbatim shot into the lead in the 18th minute when Klinnsman Pereira headed home off a floater from the right flank by Aniston Fernandes.
In the 29th minute, St Anthony’s hard-working Sherwin Lobo equalized after Sangam Pednekar had done the spade work.
After the change of ends, Arnaldo Fernandes, Paresh Korgaonkar and Dalesh Pednekar of St Anthony tested Blake Braganza in the Betalbatim goal but the latter stood firm.
Post resumption, in the 50th minute, Betalbatim in a counter move missed to score as Nigel Falcao’s power-packed effort was cleared to safety by St Anthony defender Claudio Rodrigues.
In the dying minutes, Sangam Pednekar of St Anthony beat the rival custodian with a powerful shot from the danger zone, 2-1.
The man-of-the-match was awarded to Kingslee Fernandes of Betalbatim Sc.
They will take on St Savio SC, Calangute in the final on May 31.
