RAIA: St Anthony’s Sports Club, Marna-Siolim, edged past Nerul Sports Club 2-1 in 23rd Vagator Soccer tournament at Vagator Parish Youth Sports Club ground, Friday.
St Anthony’s were the first to test Nerul goalkeeper Samesh Shirodkar who effectively dealt with Dalesh Pednekar’s shot in the 9th minute.
Nerul took the lead in the 25th minute when a cross from the left flank from Chaitan Dabholkar found Anand Madgaonkar who let go a hot shot which was not collected properly by the Nerul goalkeeper and the rebound fell to Deepraj Sangelkar who shot home..
St.Anthony’s went all out in search of the equaliser after the break and Pushparaj Mandrekar tested the rival goalkeeper in the35th and 43rd minutes but Samesh proved to be unbeatable.
Chaitan Dabholkar could have doubled the lead for Nerul SC but Siolim custodian Francis Fernandes tipped it over the crossbar.
Nerul goalkeeper Samesh was given a busy time and ultimately fumbled as Dalesh Pednekar gave the finishing touches to a Kashiram Pomburpekar cross to score the winner for St Anthony’s SC.
The man-of-the match prize was awarded to Dalesh Pednekar of St.Anthony’s by Leon Fernandes.
