CHINCHINIM: St Rock High School defeated St Jude High School, Betalbatim 2-1 to move into the quarter-finals of the 2nd edition of the St Joseph Vaz Soccer Cup, 9-a-side inter-school football tournament, organised by Mount Mary’s Educational Complex, Chinchinim, at Our Lady of Hope Church ground, Chinchinim, on Saturday.
Within five minutes, St Rock took the lead through Jeriton Simoes after he scored a perfect free-kick.
The teams went into the lemon break as the score read 1-0.
Post resumption, Dylon Rodrigues equalised for St Jude HS.
St Rock went full in search of a winner and were lucky enough to find it through Ashwin Fernandes who with a powerful header smashed the ball home.
In another match, Assumpta Convent High School defeated Our Lady of Rosary High School 2-1 to move into the quarter-finals.
