CALANGUTE: St Savio SC, Calangute defeated FC Siolim 2-1 to move into the semi-final of Saligao United Cup soccer, organized by Saligao United Club, at Dr Gustavo Monteiro ground, Candolim, on Thursday.
Calangute could have taken the lead in the 12th minute but Blake Haldankar’s effort was brilliantly saved by Siolim keeper Devanand Govekar. Finally, Pedro Gonsalves put Calangute ahead in the 15th minute off a free-kick taken just outside the box. Blake doubled the lead off a cross from Aniket Mandrekar in the 20th minute.
Changing over, Siolim reduced the margin in the 35th minute through Rajesh Pomburpekar who capitalised on a defensive lapse. Siolim tried hard to draw level but their forwards ran out of ideas in front of Calangute goal. St. Savio SC will take on Hosts Saligao United in the final on Friday.
