SIRSAIM: St. Savio Sports Club edged past Clube Sao Minguel de Taleigao 1-0, in the Goa Football Associations Geno First Division League in association with Jhoncy restaurant, at Sirsaim ground, on Saturday.
CSM Taleigao started marshalled by Vikram Balekar started the match on an attacking note with Jose Rodrigues and Jayesh Kadam making moves upfront however, the striker couldn’t really take the ball past the St Savio SC’s defence.
St Savio SC however, kept the calm and made advancements through their midfielder Dwayne Britto and Vellington Fernandes however, the team that was led by Cresson Antao failed to make find the breakthrough in the first half.
With either of the teams cancelling out each other’s attacking moves the scoreboard at the end of the first half read 0-0.
Post resumption, the teams rejuvenated and fueled with energy went on an attacking rampage and the fast tempo of the game saw the Taleigao side’s Jose being booked with the first yellow of the match for a reckless tackle.
St Savio SC finally managed to open the account in the 73rd minute as Sanket Jatkar dribbled past a couple of hapless Taleigao defenders before slotting the ball home past the rival keeper.
CSM Taleigao tried their level best to get back into the game however, St Savio SC defended well to keep the rivals at bay and maintain their one-goal advantage.
