St Savio’s, AA de Moira qualify for play-offs

After today’s encounter St. Savio’s SC Calangute stand with 17 points, A A De Moira have 17 points and both teams have qualified for the play-off, while Benny XI Mapusa (4 points)and PVC Parra (5 points) have been relegated to the Third Division league.
In the 8th minute of play St. Savio broke the deadlock when they were awarded a penalty kick by referee Yuvraj Tari after he found Rishab Pednekar guilty of tackling Ivo Fernandes inside the 18-yard box. Aaren D’Silva who stepped forward made no mistake in scoring, 1-0.
Ten minutes later Deepak Gopi doubled the lead for St Savio when he curled in his freekick to the far corner of the rival nets, 2-0.
On resumption of play, Calangute reduced the tempo of the match and seemed satisfied with their lead. Sodiem on the other hand pressed hard and managed to net in two goals in the 82nd minute and 89th minute through Mayrush Naik and Maruti Harijan.
At Poriat grounds, Benny XI Mapusa put up a brave performance but lost 3-4 to A A De Moira.
Benny XI knew that only a victory would keep their hopes alive in the Second Division. In the 13th minute, Michael Dias put Benny in the lead when he slotted home the ball from close range, 1-0.
Moira managed to level terms in the 28th minute of play through Sachinand, 1-1.
On resumption of play Moira managed to net in two goals in the 51st minute and 56th minute through Savio Fernandes.
Benny stepped up the tempo of the match and managed to level terms scoring through Michael Dias and Davesh Mulankar, 3-3.
In the injury moments of the match, Moira turned the fate of the match in their favour with Savio Fernandes scoring his hat-trick, much to the disappointment of the Benny XI colts.
