PANJIM: St Xavier’s College, Mapusa emerged as champions of the 1st State inter-collegiate handball championship after defeating Don Bosco College Panjim and Rosary College Navelim in the men’s and women’s categories respectively, organised by Goa Handball Association in collaboration with Nirmala Institute of Education, Govt. College Borda, St. Joseph Vaz College, Cortalim and MES College Zuarinagar under the aegis of ACDOPEG, recently.
Players of the final were awarded to Ritesh Sangelkar of St Xavier’s College and Meliza Pinto of Rosary College, in men and women categories respectively. The best goalkeepers awards went to Dharma Toraskar of St Xavier’s College in men’s category and to Flavina Rodrigues of St Xavier’s College, Mapusa in women’s category. Styran Fernandes of Don Bosco College was the player-of-the-tournament in men’s category while women’s Veena Naik of St Xavier’s College bagged the player-of-the-tournament in the women category.
President of Goa Handball Association Rupesh Mahatme was the chief guest and gave the prizes in rthe presence of Dr Manasvi Kamat – Principal of MES college, Prof. Dr. Maria Fonseca – Principal of St. Joseph Vaz College, Cortalim, Dr. Allan Abreu – Coordinator, D.EL.ED , at St. Joseph Vaz Institute of Education and other dignitaries.
