PANJIM: St Xavier’s College, Mapusa, and Rosary College of Commerce and Arts, Navelim, won the Men’s and Women’s Handball Championship 2023-24 respectively, organised by the Goa University, at Goa University ground, Taleigao Plateau, recently.
In the well contested Men’s final, St Xavier’s College outplayed VVM’s Shree Damodar College of Commerce and Economics, Margao, with a score of 27-19.
In the Women’s final, Rosary College of Commerce and Arts outsmarted St Xavier’s College with a final score of 9-3.
Earlier, in the Women’s semi-finals, Rosary College defeated Goa College of Art, Altinho-Panjim, 5-0 and St Xavier’s College defeated Government College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Sanquelim, 16-3.
In the Men’s semi-finals, Shree Damodar College defeated Don Bosco College, Panjim, 27-19, while St Xavier’s College defeated MES’ Vasant Joshi College of Arts and Commerce, Zuarinagar, 28-22.
Best men player was awarded to Nathan D’Souza of St Xavier’s College and best women player was bagged by Kalpita Naik of Rosary College. In total, 19 Men’s and 16 Women’s teams participated. Prof Sunder Dhuri, Vice Dean, Academic, School of Chemical Sciences, and Director, IQAC, Goa University, was the chief guest at the presentation ceremony along with Balachandra Jadar.
Assistant Director of Physical Education and Sports, Goa University, and Dr Francis Lobo, College Director of Physical Education and Sports, Rosary College, presented medals and trophies to the winners and runners-ups.
