MAPUSA: St Anthony’s High School, Monte-Guirim, booked their ticket for Delhi to play in the Jawaharlal Nehru U-17 girls hockey tournament.
In the State finals organised by Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs (DSYA), St Anthony’s HS defeated Government High School, Morlem-Sattari by 4-1 goals.
Earlier in the semi-finals, Monte-Guirim school won the nerve-battling encounter against Holy Cross High School, Bastora, via tie-breaker while Morlem school easily edge past Honda High School, Honda, in the second semi-finals match. 21 schools participated in the State level tournament.
St Anthony’s High School will represent Goa in the hockey league matches, which will commenced in the first week of October.
For the prize distribution ceremony, Assistant Director of DSYA Dr Vivek Pawar, Retd deputy director Redento D’Souza, Retd judo coach Raghunath Shintre, Chief Technical In-charge of the tournament Elitter Fernandes, SAG Hockey Coach Victor Albuquere, Headmaster of Monte-Guirim school Fr Milchester Furtado and Physical Education Teacher Luino Menezes were present.
Certificates and trophies were presented by the dignitaries to the State winners and runners-up.
