CANACONA: Minister for Sports and Tribal Welfare Ramesh Tawadkar, announced ambitious plans to hold National Tribal Sports Festival in the State while addressing a press conference, at Amone-Poinguinim for the prestigious 3-day Lukosthav-XV at Adarsh Gram, on Tuesday.
Tawadkar is the Organizing chairman of the Lukosthav-XV organized by Adarsh Yuva Sangh in its 15th year.
Stating that the Lukosthav will have National level teams from Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Karnataka playing exhibition matches with the winners of 12 participating State level teams in kabaddi, kho-kho and volleyball, plans are set rolling to explore possibility of holding a National level tribal sports festival in Goa in the future.
Presently, 12 taluka’s after holding selections, and organizing camps of a minimum period of eight days are participating at the tribal tournaments organized during Lukosthav in these three disciplines, and the same concept can be applied to hold National level tribal sports festival in future.
Sports Authority of Goa (SAG) is organizing the 4th Tribal Sports Festival from January 9 to 11, at Adarsh Gram in coordination with the Adarsh Yuva Sangh.
Besides, kho-kho, kabaddi, volleyball, tug of war and marathons, traditional games like langdi, lagoriyo and vithu danda are also part of the tribal festival where officials from SAG, are assisting with technical delegates of Volleyball association, Kabadi Association, Kho-kho Association, DSYA and coaches, informed Tawadkar.
‘Holding a National tribal sports festival in the State will be a dream come true to the community, and if we can achieve this, we will be able to send our tribal sportsmen on international arena,” Tawadkar stated.
