PANJIM: The delay over the payments of the volunteers at the National Games organised in Goa last year continues.
Groups of general volunteers have stated that they have not received their payment despite submitting all the details including their bank details to the authorities.
Some of the volunteers, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said they had volunteered for shooting for all the 10 days and despite providing all the details had not received their payment.
One of the volunteers Deep Gad said that he volunteered at the complex where the shooting competition was held. His details were taken during the National Games but no one had called him after that. However, another volunteer who gave his name as Surabhi said, some of the volunteers had received their money. This, he learned after they sent a message on the WhatsApp group confirming the fact.
Another volunteer said they had not received any calls from the authorities though they had received their participation certificates. Executive Director of Sports Authority of Goa Geeta Nagvenkar said, “Yes, there is a group of volunteers who have still not received their payments. In many of the cases there were wrong account details provided. In other cases, some of the volunteers were in the general category to which they were entitled to be paid Rs 500 and then the rest of the days they were sports specific volunteers for which they would be paid Rs 700. All this has to be put in order. We hired more staff in the Accounts Department to sort this out. This issue will be sorted out shortly. We are very clear about this. Everyone will be paid.”
