United Club of Nerul overcame a stiff challenge but managed to book themselves a spot into the semi-finals of 3rd Colormax-Imperial Rolling Trophy, sponsored by Jaysingh L Rane, with a 2-1 win over Penha de Franca, at Dr. Gustavo Monteiro stadium, Candolim, on Tuesday. The teams were locked 1-1 draw at the breather.
Penha de Franca took the lead in the 20th minute when Felix Colaco’s free kick gave no chance to Nerul goalkeeper Anson. Nine minutes later, Nerul equalised when Charles Pereira positioned himself perfectly to tap home Newton Pereira’s cross from the left.
Changing over, Pankaj Naik’s brilliant strike in the 45th minute was blocked by goalkeeper Naved Almeida while Penha de Franca’s Milande Shinde saw his shot ricochet off the Nerul post.
After several missed chances Nerul came with the match-winner in the 65th minute through Charles.
