Up hill task for Goan teams

The all-India Subroto Mukerjee football finals will be held from September 16 to October 20 in New Delhi and promises to be competitive with participation of foreign teams from Brazil, Ukraine, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bhutan, Nepal in the different categories

PANJIM: Progress High School, Sanquelim; Carmel Higher Secondary School, Nuvem and Bethany Convent High School, Sao Jose de Areal High School will be representing Goa in this year’s edition of the prestigious all-India Subroto Mukerjee football tournament Competition to be held from September 16 to October 20, in New Delhi.
The Goan teams will fight it out in the under-17 boys, under-17 girls and under- 14 boys categories respectively.
This year’s edition promises to be competitive with participation of foreign teams from Brazil, Ukraine, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bhutan, Nepal in the different categories.
The Sanquelim school will be banking heavily on Sesa Football Academy trainees studying in the institution while Carmel HSS girls have some outstanding players in their ranks. The tiny but tough Bethany boys will depend on natural talent of the players.
It will be upto the team managers, coaches and physical education teachers to keep their lads motivated at all time. 
The challenge before Goa teams is to first top their respective groups and then qualify for the quarter-final, knock-out stages which will fetch them a prize money of Rs 40,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively.
Thereafter, the ultimate champion school will be decided, who will be the winner of Subroto Mukerjee Trophy and take home a prize money of Rs 3.50 lakh rupees dedicated in memory of Air Marshal Subroto Mukerjee, the first Indian Air force chief of our India’s defence force.
In the under-14 boys category which has eight groups, Bethany Convent are clubbed in Group A along side Army Boys, Car Nicobar, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh.
