PANJIM: Top seed Vageesh Tendulkar scored 8.5 points to win the late Kamlakant Parab Ponda taluka open rapid chess tournament, organized by Vardhambika Kala Sangh and Ponda Taluka Chess Association (PTCA), at Ameya Higher Secondary School hall, Curti-Ponda, recently. A total 120 students from Ponda took part.
Milind Gauns settled for the second position while Akash Chodankar finished third.
Sarvam Naik, Rudresh Naik, Soham Naik, Parth Desai, Aniket Prabhu, Nandan Sakordekar, Vithal Pai, Vignesh Sawant, Yogesh Paibir, Kaushal Naik, Vishwesh Pai, Gayatri Bhonsle, Aman Raikar, Varun Shastry, Arun Guin, Yogiraj Sangaokar and Ravindra Kurtikar secured the fourth to 20th places respectively.
Age category prizes were awarded to Saksham Naik (U-7 boys), Srilaxmi Kamat (U-7 girls), Yash Upadhye (U-9 boys), Dion Fernandes (U-9 girls), Sathvik Kerkar (U-11 boys), Urja Dharvatker (U-11 girls), Rohan Patil (U-13 boys), Geetanjali Sakhalkar (U-13 girls), Vrajesh Natekar (U-15 boys) and Saloni Naik (U-15 girls).
Consolation prizes were awarded to Avaneeshwar Guin, Sneha Parab, Rudraksh Shilkar, Harshad Gaude and Yeesha Gaude.
Avdhut Kamat was the tournament director. Amogh Namshiker was the Chief Arbiter and was assisted by Anand Kurtiker and Sandesh Naik.
Prizes and certificates were awarded by chief guest Vinay Tendulkar, president GCA in the presence of Vinayak Gaonkar, president of Vardhambika Kala Sangh; Sagar Sakordekar, president of PTCA; Sarita Parab, wife of late Kamlakant Parab and Anil Gaunekar, treasurer of Vardhambika Kala Sangh.
Avdhut Kamat compered. He later proposed the vote of thanks. Archana Tendulkar, Claret Shastry and Manisha Naik took active part in conducting the tournament.
