MARGAO: Vailankanni Football Club, Morjim shocked Union of Chinchinim Villagers 1-0 to cruise into the quarter-finals of All-Goa Nuvem Panchayat Cup inter-village football tournament organized by Parish Youth, Nuvem at church ground, Nuvem, Tuesday. There was no score at the lemon break.
The teams started off on an aggressive note, as a result there were few thrills in the first 15 minutes. As the match progressed, Chinchinim Villagers took control and kept the rival defenders on their toes with well orchestrated raids. However, Morjim goalkeeper Dhurubai Morje stood rock solid.
Crossing over, the teams continued in the same vein as they played defensive and kept their citadel intact. However, in the 50th minute, Vailankanni broke the deadlock when Jovito Rodrigues slotted past the rival goalkeeper off pass a pass from Remmy Fernandes.
Down by a goal, Chinchinim Villagers tried their best to neutralize the lead but the rival defenders stood tall in protecting their slender lead.
