Varca Sports Club blanked Sai Avatar Sports Club, Anjuna 2-0 to march into the quarter-final of 25th Fraxier inter-village football tournament organised by Young Strikers, Benaulim at St John Baptist ground, Dando, Benaulim on Sunday. There was no score at half time.
Sai Avatar nearly found the mark early in the game but striker Joseph Noronha blasted wide from five yards out.
Crossing over, Varca piled on tremendous pressure and their hard work finally bore fruits as Elvis Fernandes goalbound cross slipped from the hands of the Anjuna goalkeeper and Vilroy D’Cruz made no mistake in sending the ball to the far corner of the net.
Varca kept up the pressure and Zico Menezes doubled the lead after he made a solo run inside the rival area and beat Anjuna goalkeeper Francis Mascarenhas.
