CHANDOR: Varca SC defeated Curtorim Gymkhana 1-0 to move into the semi-finals of the Chandor Seamen’s Trophy football tournament played at Chandor ground, on Sunday.
Clifton Barbosa of Curtorim took control of the ball from Nelson Fernandes dribbled Quelon Alemao, Velroy Rodrigues and shot from the top of the Curtorim box but the Curtorim keeper palmed away the ball to safety in the tenth minute.
Princewel Fernandes of Varca had the best chance to score but the latter’s powerdrive shot hit the rival post and went out of play.
Another chance went abegging for Varca when in the 18th minute, Macklin Mascarenhas collected the ball from Nash Pereira and dribbled past a couple of midfielders and released an arrow bond shot but it hit the Curtorim crossbar and went out of play.
At the hour mark, Varca scored the match-winner when Dylan Lima reacted first to Nash Pereira’s rebound shot as the former slammed the ball past the helpless keeper to score the only goal of the match.
