MARGAO: Verna Sports Club advanced into the semi-finals of All-Goa 42nd Custodio memorial inter-village football tournament with a 2-0 win over Calangute Association at Manora ground, Raia, Saturday. There was no score at the lemon break.
The teams played at a fast pace and there were a few thrills at either end.
Crossing over, Verna were a transformed side as they raided the Calangute goal periodically. Their persistent forays paid dividends in the 46th minute when striker Jesuino Pereira slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot off a well measured pass from Shaun Pereira.
Stunned by the deficit, Calangute Association tried their best to get back into the game but failed to get past the rival strong defence. Verna inflated their tally when Menino Pereira punted the ball to the far corner of the net off a pass from Samson Menezes.
