St Anthony started aggressively in search of the opener and could have scored in the seventh minute through Vipul Pednekar but the latter’s long ranger missed the target narrowly.
Subsequently, Sherwin Lobo’s powerful grounder was blocked saved by the Verna custodian after an assist from Paresh Korgaokar.
Crossing over, St Anthony continued in the same rhythm but Vipul Pednekar’s effort did not materialize in the 43rd minute as he was left frustrated by the Verna goalkeeper.
However, after a slow start to the second session, it was Verna SC who broke the deadlock in the 58th minute with Wilson Fernandes nodding in after an intelligent assist by Savio Fernandes.
