Verna too good for Varca

Verna Sports Club thrashed Varca Sports Club 5-0 to move into the quarter-finals of 3rd Wilred Leisure Cup inter-village football tournament organised by Wilred Leisure Sports Club at Curtorim ground, on Tuesday. Verna led 3-0 at the breather.
Verna dominated from the start and swarmed all over the rival territory. They made several forays into the Varca half and broke the deadlock when Arcenio Pereira fired home from close range.
The early goal helped Verna mount pressure and they doubled the lead with Anthony Rego bulging the net in the 25th minute. Even as Varca tried hard to regain their composure, there was a let up by the Verna players.
Verna continued to pile up pressure when the Varca defenders failed to contain. John Costa further consolidated when he beat the rival keeper with a stiff grounder.
The second half did not bring respite for Varca as Verna attacked both the flanks. Varca were subdued as they failed to play as a cohesive unit and they surrendered their challenge meekly without giving any fight.
John Costa struck a second time to complete his brace soon after resumption. Anthony Rego drove the last nail into Varca’s coffin late in the second half to record a fluent win.
