MARGAO: Vasco Veterans defeated Calangute Veterans 2-0 in the Veterans football tournament, organised in memory of Late Anthony Baptista held at Musson ground, Majorda on Sunday.
The match was a closely fought contest between the two teams.
Calangute Veterans were hit by injury eight minutes into the first half as Bruno Coutinho had to be replaced due to a muscle pull. Even after the early setback, Calangute Veterans dominated the first half and restricted Vasco towards midfield play.
There were no scores during the first half.
The second half started with Vasco Veterans on the front foot and eight minutes into the half Vincent Colaco scored the first goal for Vasco Veterans assisted by Cruz Fernandes.
Vasco Veterans defence was solid throughout the game and was ably lead by Shaikh Abu.
In the dying minutes of the game, Vincent Colaco scored his and Vasco’s second goal, thus ending any hopes of a late comeback for Calangute. .
Calangute Veterans had their chances but they simply couldn’t beat the resolute Vasco defending.
With this win Vasco Veterans have qualified for the semi-finals.
