PANJIM: Vitogem Sports Club emerged champions in the all-Divar inter-ward football tournament organised by St Mathias Sports Club, Malar in coordination with Melca Vaz at Sao Mathias Panchayat ground, recently.
In the finals, Vitogem scored a solitary goal to seal the victory after a tough battle against Jingle Bells.
The teams from the beginning were equal to their task in form of strike and attack but failed to make an opening.
As the match progressed, Vitogem showed their prowess when Andrew D’Mello scored the all-important goal in the first half.
Changing over, Jingle Bells started with renewed ideas but failed to penetrate the rival defence thus settling as the runners up.
Franky Pacheco was awarded the best goalkeeper while Andrew D’Mello, the budding player bagged the best player of the tournament award. Jingle Bells took the best team prize.
Sarpanch of Sao Mathias Village Panchayat Ludovina Ataide was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of St Mathias Sports Club acting president Maxy Vaz and Treasurer James Fernandes and Sports Secretary Ivan Parkin.
