AGENCIES, CHENNAI: FC Goa’s Luciano Sobrosa, who was one half of Goa’s assured centre-back pairing, spoke to indiansuperleague.com shortly after his team’s 2-0 victory over Chennaiyin FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai and shared his thoughts. Here are the excerpts from the interview.
Q. You are on top of the points table with the win today. Thoughts?
Luciano: We had lost 4-0 in Goa. We are happy because with the three points, now we go top. But it is still important to go higher now [in terms of performance]. We have six matches left and we’ll try to qualify.
Q. You’ve avenged the result earlier in the season versus Chennai…
Luciano: It’s not revenge you know, they had a very good game against us in Goa, they do everything right, today we prepared very well because it’s important to have a very strong team, and I thank god for the win and the football we played today.
Q. FC Goa looked defensive in the first half. Did the team make any specific plans for the second half?
Luciano: No, we tried to defend well because they have very dangerous performers. They have skills, they have speed, they have everything. They scored in all the matches and that’s why we did what Zico told us, but we also scored two goals and won the match.
Q. You picked up the Fittest-Player-of-the-Match award today. Is that encouraging?
Luciano: Of course, it’s encouraging for any player who gets the award in this league. This league is very competitive and it motivates me to work more and I would say thank you to god who has given me the talent for football and my family members who have supported me all these years.
