PANJIM: Wesley Do Rosario emerged victorious in the men category as well as junior boys while Sukriti Das clinched the final spot in the women category in the final of the Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias Table Tennis Championship 2018 which saw an enthusiastic audience witness at the playing arena at Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias in Miramar.
Sneha Rane won in two categories – the sub junior girls and junior girls categories while Wesley Do Rosario also won the top spot in the junior boys category and the men’s final.
Playing in two finals, Wesley Do Rosario showed his supreme skills as he won the junior boys category defeating Nagesh Verenkar by 3-0 (11-7, 11-6, 11-3).
With all eyes on the men’s finals Wesley Do Rosario also came out triumphant over Dheeraj Rai scoring 4-1 (11-7, 11-6, 11-9, 8-11, 11-8). The fans were treated to an exciting final as both players went into long rallies that entertained the fans.
Also playing in two finals, Sneha Rane showed her supreme skills as she won the sub junior girls category in straight sets 11-4, 11-4, 11-1 to defeat Simran Kubal. In the junior girls category too, Sneha got the better of Prutha Parrikar with a 3-2 (11-9, 11-5, 6-11, 4-11, 11-6) win.
Aaron Farias playing in the cadet boys category defeated Akshan Lawande by 3-0 in straight sets (11-8, 11-3, 11-9) while in the cadet girls category Simran Kubal defeated Trusha Hammanavar scoring 3-2 (7-11, 11-8, 9-11, 13-11, 11-6).
In the sub junior boys category, Anshuman Agarwal got the better of Nagesh Verenkar by 3-2 (11-5, 11-4, 9-11, 9-11, 11-8).
Sukriti Das playing in the Women category defeated Mallika Gogoi scoring 12-10, 8-11, 11-2.
In the Veterans singles (40+) category Amit Naik defeated Sachin Soares scoring 3-1 (9-11, 11-4, 11-6, 11-6). In the Veterans singles (50+) category Deepak Gopani defeated Arun Naik scoring 3-2 (5-11, 11-6, 11-6, 5-11, 13-11).
In the Veterans singles (60+) category Antony Gomes defeated Prakash Alfonso scoring 3-0 (11-3, 11-7, 11-9).
The awards were presented to the winners by Vero Nunes, President of Goa Table Tennis Association (GTTA), Sunil Naik, Honourable Secretary and Edwin Menezes, Jt. Secretary, Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias and Vishnu Kolvalcar, Vice President, Goa Table Tennis Association in the presence of fans and supporters of the sport.
Prizes collectively amounting to Rs 43,000 were awarded to winners in the various categories.
