MARGAO: Wilred Leisure Sports Club got the better of Dicarpale Sports Club 6-4 via the tie-breaker to sail into the quarter-finals of all-Goa Davorlim Soccer Cup inter-village football tournament, organized by Sporting Club of Davorlim, at panchayat ground, Davorlim, Tuesday.
The teams were tied 2-2 at full time.
In an evenly poised encounter, both the teams displayed an attacking brand of soccer and kept the holiday crowd on their toes. Wilred Leisure surged ahead in the 20th minute when striker Milagres Fernandes slotted past the rival goalkeeper with snap shot.
Stung by that setback, Dicarpale Sports Club regrouped quickly and took the fight to the rival camp and their efforts bore the fruit when Clinton Colaco neutralized the lead with rasping shot.
The second session continued in same vein with the teams showing urgency and raiding each other’s goals with good sorties. Charles Colaco punted the ball to the far corner of the net after being fed by Clinton Niasso beating the rival goalkeeper with snap shot.
However, their joy was short-lived when Milagres Fernandes equalized for Wilred Leisure late in the second half.
In the ensuing penalty shoot out, Neville Fernandes, Seby Martins, Myron Fernandes and Bruno Fernandes converted for Wilred Leisure Sports Club while Clinton Niasso and Joe Gomes scored for Dicarpale Sports Club.
