MAPUSA: Xetrapal Sports Club scored a resounding 4-1 win over Football Club Siolim in the fourth round league match of the GFA’s Second Division League, at Duler stadium, here, on Tuesday. The winners lead by a comfortable 2-0 margin at the breather.
This was the first win for Xetrapal in the league, who now stand with three points while FC Siolim have just point.
After several missed chances Xetrapal took the lead in 34th minute when Sagar Bhatkhande sent in a pinpoint cross to Dikshay Sarap, who finished off with a powerful strike.
In a matter of a few minutes, Xetrapal fired in their second goal when Aldrich Fernandes collected the ball from Sherwin Lobo and fired in through an adroit placement.
On crossing over, FC Siolim tried their luck at goal, however, Rajesh Pomburphekar’s powerful right-footer from the edge of the box banged the Xetrapal post.
Five minutes later, Siolim managed to reduce the margin through a goalkeeping error off Salil Chari, who instead of clearing the ball to safety, struck his own defender where the ball then rolled towards Pushparaj Mandrekar who slotted home the ball into the open goal.
At the other end, Xetrapal could have taken the score to 3-1, however, Sagar saw his goal bound strike being kept away by Siolim defender Claudio Rodrigues.
Minutes later, Xetrapal keeper Salil Chari was called into action when he dived to his left to keep away Omkar Sawant’s rasping strike.
In the final moments, Xetrapal fired in two quick goals through Rishiketh Salgaonkar and Aldrige Fernandes to round off the score tally to 4-1.
