CHAPORA: Xetrapal Sports Club pip St Savio Sports Club 5-4 via tie-breaker to move ahead in the Anjuna Caisua Village Panchayat Cup, organized by Chapora Sports Club, at Chapora grounds, on Thursday.
Both the sides worked hard but failed to find the back of the nets time and again.
Xetrapal SC keeper Ashish Gadekar did a fine job under the cross bar to deny Sameer Chodankar and Joaquim Gonsalves from putting St Savio into the lead. At the other hand Bradley Lobo was found guilty of squandering chances from handshaking distance.
In the resultant tiebreaker Pralab Mandrekar, Vipul Pednekar, Vinay Pednekar, Bradley Lobo and Sahil Pomphuphekar scored for Xetrapal SC while Ashley Lobo, Joaquim Gonsalves, Sameer Chodankar, Deep Govekar shot on target for St Savio SC.
Earlier, Friends XI Vaddem defeated Candolim Sports Club 3-1.
Candolim SC broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute through Avinesh Pereira. Soon, Friends XI nullified the goal when Edberg Sequeira as he scored from an individual effort to make it 1-1.
Later, a minute before going into the breather Amar Tuenkar curled in his freekick to the far corner of the Candolim SC goal to put Friends XI into the lead.
Crossing over, Friends XI further inflated the lead through Rohan Naik taking the tally to 3-1.
