CANACONA: Dinesh Pai, a pharmacist and resident of Patnem, Canacona was all in praise after he rescued a deer from the jaws of a pack of dogs and certain death while he was returning from his farm house at Dumane on Wednesday evening.
It all transpired when Pai was on his way back from his farm house located off the Chaudi-Agonda road, Dumane on Wednesday evening.

According to Pai, he and his wife Sudha Dinesh Pai, a retired teacher spotted the deer in distress as a pack of stray dogs were pouncing on it when they were just returning from their farm at Dumane.
Pai recalled that just as he and his wife were walking towards their car, the injured bleeding deer brushed against his wife as he was trying to escape from the attack of dogs.
The unruly dogs had even pierced into the horns of the deer and there was profuse bleeding.
“My wife in one word told me to go and save the deer and that’s when I started to run to save the animal from the marauding dogs.”
“After chasing the deer for one-km I finally separated the deer from the dogs and held on to the neck of the deer for half an hour during which time the terrified deer stamped me on my feet continuously,” he recounted.
“The dogs by that time had tasted blood and were in no mood to leave their prized catch and were trying to come again and again towards us from all directions to threaten me to leave the deer alone,” Pai added.
“Help came from a lady who arrived at the scene when she saw the commotion all around and I told her to get a rope from somewhere as I was drained out after the long chase and constant stamping from the deer and uncomfortable posture,” he said.
“After I tied his neck with the rope I cajoled him by brushing his neck and then the deer realised that we are trying to save him and not to harm him.”
Meantime, Pai managed to call wildlife officials over the phone and informed them about the deer who was by that time not only hurt but also was in trauma and bleeding profusely.
“After a while the wild life team arrived and took the deer to Bondla Zoo for treatment,” Pai informed.
Immediately, his efforts to save the helpless deer was in for praise as his photos with the deer with a rope tied around its neck waiting for the wild life rescue personnel went viral on various social media platforms in the taluka.
