“We have given them the instructions to visit all places where dead bodies are found whether or not they are found under suspicious circumstances. It is mandatory to ensure identity of the dead body and whether it makes a case of unnatural death instead of disposing of the body without any inquiry,” Inspector General of Police Sunil Garg told Herald.
In the first 25 days of the month, over 90 bodies were located at different places wherein identity of a majority of them could not be established.
Issuing another direction to the superintendents of police and deputy superintendents of police, Garg said, their night patrolling should compulsorily cover north and south Goa police stations. The duty on-rotation has nonetheless given them a free hand to inspect the working of the police stations of their choice.
“They should preferably cover all Goa. However, they can visit a few areas provided they cover both the districts. These surprise visits will ensure personnel as well as station in-charges are on their toes,” the IPS officer disclosed.
