Visits to Dudhsagar stopped

PONDA: Visits to the Dudhsagar waterfalls has been stopped since the last two days for the safety of tourists, as the water flow in the river is close to danger level following heavy rains. The tourism season at the waterfalls commenced in the first week of October and since then a large number of tourists are flocking to the place. “Safety of tourists is a priority for us,” a forest official said implying that entry is barred to the waterfalls. To reach Dudhsagar waterfalls, the tourists have to cross the Dudhsagar River in Jeeps. But since it is raining in Karnataka, the river is flowing close to danger level making crossing the river by Jeep dangerous. “Tourists will be allowed to visit the waterfalls as soon the water level in the river comes down and the rains subside,” the forest official added.
