A 16-year-old girl died after allegedly jumping from the third floor of her school building in Haryana’s Faridabad, with her father questioning the circumstances surrounding the punishment she reportedly received before the incident.
The incident took place on Tuesday at Navodaya Vidya Niketan Senior Secondary School. The girl’s father, Pramod Kumar, alleged that his daughter, Janvi, was punished after she and a friend ate biryani at school. According to him, she was initially asked to stand outside the classroom in the sun.
Kumar said CCTV footage showed Janvi entering the vice-principal’s room at around 11 am and remaining there for nearly two hours. He said the footage also showed her leaving the room once or twice before returning.
“She came out again at around 1:30 pm and then went straight to the third floor,” Kumar said, questioning what had happened during the period she spent inside the room.
According to Kumar, his daughter’s friend informed the family that the two girls had eaten biryani at school, following which Janvi was punished.
Kumar has raised questions over the duration and nature of the punishment, saying, “What kind of punishment lasts for two hours inside a room?”
The circumstances leading up to Janvi’s death are now under scrutiny, with the CCTV footage and accounts of those present expected to be examined as part of the investigation
