PONDA: It may be entangled in a controversy regarding space for its institute at Cuncolim, but that has not stopped the National Institute of Technology (NIT) from deciding to start PhD programmes at its temporary campus in Farmagudi from December this year.
During its first senate meeting at the institute’s temporary campus in Farmagudi-Ponda, NIT has also approved the revised course structure of the engineering courses at NIT-Goa.
“It was a two-day meeting, where academicians from prestigious institutes of Pan-India joined to review the curriculum of NIT-Goa,” stated the press note.
The two-day meet from August 31 to September 1 was presided over by Director of the Institute Prof G R Reddy.
In his address, Reddy said it was a “historical moment” for NIT-Goa, as distinguished academicians from IIT’s, NIT’s and BITS have come to offer their intellectual resources to this relatively new NIT.
Reddy also gave a detailed presentation of the B Tech course and its rules and regulations, the examination system and the PhD regulations by the academic coordinator of the institute, states the press note.
“All these years since 2010, NIT-Goa was under the mentorship of NIT-Surathkal and now, NIT-Goa wished to stand on its own with an individual identity along with an academic status,” added the press note.
During the meeting, some reviewers engaged themselves in credit distribution to different subjects and the rest evaluated the course presentation of the faculty members of EEE (Electrical and Electronics Engineering), CSE (Computer Science Engineering) and ECE (Electronics & Communication Engineering).
“The reviewers gave stress on Mathematics apart from core subjects in each discipline and recommended that the mathematics should be there in all the four years, as it forms the backbone of any branch of science and technology and engineering. Value education, physical education and environmental studies had been introduced as courses under open category,” states the press note.
The NIT-Goa presently functions from a temporary campus at Farmagudi and offers engineering courses in EEE (Electrical and Electronics Engineering), CSE (Computer Science Engineering) and ECE (Electronics & Communication Engineering).
