GPPC President Girish Chodankar on Friday said there cannot be different decisions in different States when it comes to government formation and hence either the Goa Governor or the Karnataka Governor is wrong, so one has to correct the mistake.
Chodankar said that after the March 2017 Assembly elections in Goa, Congress had 17 MLAs and the support from a regional party and three Independents. “We had the numbers and being the single largest party, the Goa Governor should have invited us to form the government. But she invited BJP, with 13 MLAs to form the government,” he said.
“However, when it came to Karnataka, this precedent was changed. BJP was invited to form the government for being the single largest party, despite not having a majority, whereas the Congress and JD(S) alliance that had the required numbers, were not invited,” he explained.
“That means, either the Goa Governor or Karnataka Governor is wrong, or both are wrong, so let one of them rectify the mistake. Let’s see,” Chodankar stated.
He said the Goa Governor was positive towards their request and that the party is confident she will invite the Congress to form the government.
