SIOLIM: The St Anthony Church, Siolim committee along with Siolim Marna Village Panchayat have finally decided to solve the long pending issue of public toilet facility at the Siolim market, near the St Anthony Church.

Having a toilet facility was need of the hour since the people especially vendors in this locality were facing major inconvenience due to absence of a toilet.
It may be recalled, this issue was highlighted by local daily Herald in the month of February, where the vendors and shopkeepers had demanded for a shade and a basic facility of toilet.
The vendors, especially the ladies had expressed that they face major problem of relieving themselves with the absence of a toilet while they are doing business throughout the day.
St Anthony Church Parish Priest Fr Socorro Mendes said, “In July when I took over the charge, I had visited the surrounding area and learnt that there is no toilet when this is a market area with several businesses operating here. I brought this issue before the church committee and said that we need to solve this issue.”
Further, Fr Mendes said, “I have travelled to Europe and there they have toilets everywhere so I wanted to get that mentality here. And so on, the church committee decided to construct a toilet on priority basis.”
Siolim Marna Deputy Sarpanch William Fernandes said, “This was a long pending issue as well as a demand of the people to have public toilet in this locality but were falling short of land. Now the church has taken a step ahead and with the cooperation of everyone we will try to solve this issue at the earliest.”
“It was a need of the hour to have a public toilet in this locality since hundreds of people visit this market on everyday basis and absence of a toilet causes inconvenience to the people, vendors and shopkeepers operating in the area,” a local said.
Later, Fr Mendes along with Deputy Sarpanch Fernandes conducted an inspection of the surrounding area.
