Perhaps some prudence please

Is it advisable to have festivals like Sunburn and EDM according to the CM when he had earlier said the door of tourism would only be open once it was safe and vaccinations had taken place. With the third wave being talked about and cases rising would it have been prudent to postpone a final decision on when to have festivals like Sunburn. People from the industry and residents speak their mind

Sunburn in November fine. We will know
everything by the end of October or November. By then 98 % of all vaccinations
would have taken place by October, this of course will include the second
injection. The Delta plus is in Pune but it has not caused much death.
Infections may be there but like I said deaths have not occurred on the scale
as expected. By November perhaps some people may want t o have events but if
the Government so decides they will change dates. The government will evaluate
the situation on the ground and make decisions. I know surrounding states are
not as vaccinated like us. We can control the situation here. Things are
following into place. Let’s see what happens.

More stringent steps need to be taken to ensure that vaccination
of the population takes place. The economy cannot stop. A damaged economy could
hurt the population. Yes, one is aware of the effect of the virus on the
general population but it will mean going forward people having to be
disciplined. The organisers of Sunburn will have to take precautions and
install all the testing paraphernalia in place. Perhaps they could insist on
anyone interested in buying a ticket to show proof they had taken both the
shots. Enjoy, yes but with care.

So far the Govt. has done the right thing by unlocking the
curfew in a slow and steady manner. Similarly, the opening of the borders for
potential tourists should be done in a staggered manner, with strict covid
appropriate behavior. Major festivals where thousands of people gather should
be avoided. The next six months are crucial and care should be taken to see
that the third wave which is expected does not get out of control.

It is not possible to have festivals like Sunburn. It is
practically impossible. We are talking about the third wave in October. When we
made a representation in June to the government, we had talked about such
gatherings where crowds woud, gather making them super spreader events. We cannot
have them. If they are held they have to be monitored. When we talk about
festivals like Diwali, Ganesh Chathurthi and Christmas being curtailed, what is
the point of talking about Sunburn?

– Nilesh Shah, President TTAG

According to the statement by the CM, and all the talk about
covid cases and the 3rd wave of it, the decision to hold Sunburn should be
postponed. People have faced many difficulties in this pandemic; people have
lost their jobs and family members. It is risky to resume the unhindered flow
of tourists in the state so soon. We need to start step by step. I know tourism
is the source of income for Goa but still we have to be very careful.

The government has handled the first and the second waves
extremely poorly and ludicrous decisions like this are only going to further
impact the health and well being of the residents of Goa. The world needs time
to heal but clearly, Goa doesn’t. It’s infuriating.

I feel they should have given them a provisional ok and reviewed
it in early October. We can see the situation by then about how the third wave
has turned out and also the vaccination. The vaccination will also be
administered to the children. Based on the situation a decision can be made. We
should put a condition that anyone buying a ticket should show proof they have
taken both the injections. The organisers should take a scanned copy and keep
it as a copy.
