VASCO: Declaring their full support to the protesting Western India Shipyard Limited (WISL) employees, around 500-odd people from Headland Sada including the workers’ families on Wednesday took out a protest rally at Headland Sada demanding the state government’s intervention in resolving the issue of the workers’ pending salary.
Children and youth too participated in the rally, which started at around 5 pm from Sada junction and later culminated at the same spot.
Union leader Ajit Singh Rane slammed the Mormugao MLA Milind Naik as well as the state government for not coming to the rescue of protesting workers and for neglecting two WISL workers who are on an indefinite hunger strike since last 24 days.
“It is shame that the state government failed to resolve the pending salary issues of 350-odd WISL workers, though several assurances were given by the state leaders including the Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar. Today, the family members of WISL workers are suffering due to which they along with their children had to come out on the streets demanding justice,” Rane added.
After the rally, the WISL workers and the people in their speeches slammed the state government for ignoring the deteriorating condition of Alexander Pacheco and Vishnu Naik who are on indefinite strike since last 24 days.
They also appealed to the state BJP leaders to come forward to offer their support to the WISL workers whose families have been suffering since last several months due to pending salary.
