PONDA: Goa Forward Party (GFP) on Tuesday promised to work for the betterment of Ponda residents and that it would write to the government requesting to undertake the repair of roads in Ponda town which, it said, are in worst condition.
Addressing a press conference here, a local GFP leader Rajesh Verenkar said that roads in Ponda are dug up for development work such as laying of sewerage lines, but while carrying out this work there was lack of planning.
He said that due to digging work, the conditions of the roads in the town have become pothole ridden and people are demanding urgent repairs.
He said that his party would submit a memorandum to the government demanding restoration of the roads in Ponda at the earliest.
Verenkar claimed that his party has launched various development works under various departments of government. He informed that the party’s WRD Minister Vinoda Palyekar and RDA Minister Jayesh Salgaonkar would attend to Ponda office to hear the grievances of people.
He said that currently, the beautification work of Hanuman Tirth Lake at Ponda bypass is underway at a cost of Rs 35 lakh. Similarly, he said, beautification at Zareshwar Devastan is proposed and work would begin soon. He said that five proposed works are under consideration and soon would be approved.
On the occasion, Vice-President Durgadas Kamat declared that a 38-member Ponda Constituency Committee headed by Manohar Harmalkar has been formed. He said there are around 43 booths in Ponda Constituency and for every booth a committee would be elected.
Newly appointed Ponda Constituency Committee President Manohar Harlmalkar also addressed the press briefing.
