Babush, Jennifer skip poll meet

PANJIM: Congress dissident St Cruz MLA Atanasio Monserrate and his MLA wife Jennifer were absent during the party’s campaign strategy drafting meeting for Panaji by-election, held on Friday, thus openly distancing themselves from the party.

Monserrate had openly stated that he will work to defeat Congress candidate Surendra Furtado. Ironically, the Monserrate panel has backed Surendra Furtado as Mayor of the CCP for a second term.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) and Congress Legislative Party (CLP) Friday morning held a joint meeting to decide on the by-poll strategy and to deliberate on strengthening the party’s base at the grassroots level in all 40 constituencies.
From the CLP, only Leader of Opposition Pratapsing Rane and MLA Pandurang Madkaikar attended, while former Chief Minister and present Margao MLA Digambar Kamat, Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco and Chandrakant Kavalekar apparently informed about their non availability and gave reasons for their absence. However, there was no communications from legislators including MLAs Monserrate and his wife Jennifer, Vishwajit Rane and Mauvin Godinho.
Sources said that official invite was sent to all the legislators to attend the meeting.
