PANJIM: On the occasion of State Consumer Rights Day to be celebrated on June 25,

Goa Civic & Consumer Action Network (GOACAN) will launch a special awareness campaign themed “Consume with Care” comprising 60 days of awareness camps highlighting the need for consumers to purchase goods and services with care.
Speaking about the campaign, GOACAN’s Roland Martins said, “The awareness campaign will focus on the environmental impact of consumption and the need for sustainable consumption so as to protect the environment. Consumers will be informed of the reasons behind the fishing ban being imposed during the monsoon by the Fisheries Department and the ban by the Forest Department on killing of frogs for their meat.”
Healthy diets and the importance of food safety will also be discussed. Information will be provided to consumers to be aware of the contents of the packaged food and street food by giving special attention to ingredients being used. Consumers will also be made aware of the best practices to be followed in food preparation so as to avoid contamination and adulteration.
Safety and quality standards for products and services will be yet another focus of the campaign wherein consumers will be made aware of Fire Safety norms for LPG and Electrical appliances which must have the ISI mark of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).
“Special efforts will be made to alert consumers when purchasing milk, edible oils and packaged drinking water as per the Packaged Commodities Rules and Guidelines of Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) with regards to possible labelling violations,” added Martins.
