Sir Jawaharlal Da Costa soccer: The King’s School are champs

RAIA: The King’s School, Sao Jose De Areal, made easy work of Perpetual Succour Convent High School, Navelim, 3-0 in the All-Goa inter-school U-14 girls football tournament organised by United Sports Club of Seraulim in memory of Sir Jawaharlal Da Costa at the panchayat ground, Seraulim. 

Lara D’Cruz scored a brace to give The King’s School the much needed lead of 2-0 in the first half itself. Lara scored her first goal in the 11th minute of play when she ran solo after receiving a defence splitting pass and tapped the ball into an empty goal.

Her second goal came when she smartly chipped the ball over the advancing rival goalkeeper in the 18th minute. At half time, The King’s School led 2-0.

The King’s School scored their last goal in the 39th minute of the second half through Joiada Fernandes to seal the fate of Perpetual Succour Convent HS and secure their place for the title.

Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas was the chief guest, Fr Basil Vago, principal, Loyola High School was the guest of honour along with special invitees Melvin Pereira, chairman, The King’s School; Ligia Pereira, director,  The King’s School; Sr Liberata Fernandes, headmistress, Perpetual Succour Convent HS; Remedious Fernandes (Timothy) first president of the United Sports Club of Seraulim (USCS), all former presidents of USCS namely Nelson Noronha, Olavo D’Souza and Joaquim Dias; Maria Perpetua Da Costa, wife of late Sir Jawaharlal Da Costa and Angela Dourado, panch V P Seraulim, were present and gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up.
