VASCO: An NGO has written to the authorities to control the rampant open defecation in Mormugao taluka.
In a letter to the South Goa District Collector and Mormugao Deputy Collector, GOACAN has requested them to convene a meeting to review the facilities and plans to control the rampant open defecation in Mormugao Taluka.
GOACAN’s letter comes after Herald raised the issue of unchecked open defecation in Baina, Kharewado and Zuarinagar.
On the occasion of World Toilet Day, GOACAN had brought to the notice of the authorities the complaints being received yet again about the inadequate facilities and overcharging in the Public Toilets (Sulabh Souchalaya) managed by Sulabh International in the town of Vasco.
GOACAN said that they are concerned as to whether the number of public toilets in Vasco have been increased keeping in mind the number of people visiting various offices, commercial establishments and the marketplace.
A meeting was convened in July 2016 and discussion was held regarding various related issues and some decisions were taken accordingly.
“The public toilets today are used by a large number of consumers especially Children, Women and Senior Citizens. It is therefore required that adequate facilities are available at these toilets and the same come under regular supervision by designated officials,” said GOACAN in their letter.
It may be noted that adequate public toilet facilities catering to persons with disabilities also need to be in place and the same be maintained keeping in mind cleanliness and hygiene.
