PANJIM: The Goa Forward Party (GFP) has questioned the wisdom of Goa government for defying Centre’s guidelines to allow teaching and non-teaching staff to work from home till July-end.
At a press conference held at the party office on Thursday, GFP vice president Durgadas Kamat has questioned the government on the safety of around 15,000 staff who are compulsorily asked to report to the school.

“First of all it is the pathetic state that when teachers have invested in buying gadgets and internet connection for conducting online classes, the State government has directed the teaching and non-teaching staff to report to the schools. Who will take the responsibility of their health safety and their families,” he questioned.
The party has also slammed the government for risking the lives of these staff at a time when cases of COVID-19 are increasing and bed capacity in the hospitals and COVID-19 Care Centres getting full.
In the wake of COVID-19 crisis, the Ministry of Human Resources Development released a circular last week directing that teachers, researchers and non-teaching staff members be permitted and advised to work from home till July 31, 2020. It has also encouraged distant learning besides online classes.
Party’s general secretary Prashant Naik lamented that the Goa government has failed to undertake a survey on the availability of gadgets like mobiles and laptops, as well as internet connectivity among the student community. “Has the government decided an action plan if the students do not have access to these requirements,” he questioned.
