PANJIM: The State in the recent past has seen some top bureaucrats being infected with COVID-19 as over 32,000 cases are reported from across various parts, so far.
Director General of Police Mukesh Kumar Meena and Director of Women and Child Development Deepali Naik tested positive for the virus last week, adding to 5,000-odd active cases.

Nearly three months before Meena’s transfer to Goa Police, the post was lying vacant for a considerable long time — first time in the history of the department. After DGP Pranab Nanda died of cardiac arrest during an official visit to New Delhi on November 15, 2019, Inspector General of Police Jaspal Singh led the force in absence of a full time DGP.
Less than a month after Meena took over the charge, Singh, on July 23 was issued a transfer order to New Delhi on July 23. The State police now do not even have a full time IGP, albeit two Deputy Inspector General of Police are unofficially holding the fort.
Goa Police, has so far, had 698 COVID-19 cases and one death of a cook at IRB. Out of the total, 192 are active cases and 505 are discharged.
In the Department of Women and Child where the Director is a new case of COVID-19, sources said that joint director and deputy directors are ensuring its smooth functioning.
