PANJIM: Ahead of upcoming Zilla Panchayat polls scheduled on December 12, the Congress is confident that people of Goa will give befitting reply to the ruling BJP’s false promises on restarting mining activities, providing employment to locals and revival of economy.
The Congress’ ZP candidates from various constituencies in North Goa on Monday met Congress president Girish Chodankar, Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat and senior leader and MLA Pratapsingh Rane to review the preparations of Zilla Panchayat elections.

The Congress’ ZP candidates in a statement issued are confident that with the support of people they will defeat the money, muscle and manipulation power of BJP.
“It is important for all the Goans to unite and ensure that Zilla Panchayat candidates fielded by BJP and its allies are defeated. We are all confident of our victory and we are committed to be the voice of the people to protect identity of Goa,” the candidates said.
The candidates from Colvale, Penha de France, Calangute, Reis Magos, Honda, Nagargao, Aldona, Anjuna, Siolim, Mayem, Corlim, Chimbel, St Lawrence, Latambarcem, Socorro and Sirsaim, were present for the meeting.
Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat said the candidates are confident of victory and are committed to protect lifeline Mhadei, save the environment and preserve the identity of Goa.
“People of Goa will give befitting reply to BJP’s false promises on restart of mining, providing employment & reviving economy,” he said.
Congress president Girish Chodankar informed that the party has also extended support to some candidates, with strong winning chances, in some constituencies, to ensure that there is no division of votes favouring the BJP.
“Our sole aim is to defeat the BJP and its allies and save Goa from destruction,” he said.
Former CM Pratapsingh Rane said that time has now come to bring change in Goa to facilitate revival of economy and plan for betterment of State. “I appeal to all the proud Goans to come out in large numbers and support Congress candidates,” he said.
