Police to file indictment in Vijaya Pagi murder case

PANJIM: The Crime Branch is all set to file the indictment in the Vijaya Pagi murder case before the South Goa Sessions Court on Saturday. The indictment would contain details of the witnesses' statements, phone records of murder accused Ram Barose and forensic report as part of the evidence, according to the officials.

The daily wage worker is presently in jail for alleged rape and murder of the elderly fisherwoman from Canacona on January 31. His confessional statement that he gagged the victim’s mouth with her saree and raped her twice after her death, will be a crucial submission. 
Barose had disclosed to the investigating team there was a physical struggle between Pagi and him when he dragged her in an attempt to rape her but she was suffocated to death. 
It is learnt that the second accused Vikas Saw would be given a clean chit as his involvement in the crime is not proven. 
Crime Branch officials had brought him to Goa from his native Bihar, after the probe indicated that he had purchased a stolen mobile phone belonging to deceased from Barose at a cost of Rs 1,000. 
The Crime Branch teams achieved a major breakthrough after the 20-year-old’s arrest in the case which had triggered a public outcry in Canacona where angry villagers demanding immediate arrest of the culprit. Barose had been living in Goa for the past five months and working as labourer at a construction site near ITI at Mastimol Canacona where he committed the crime.
