MAPUSA: Nestor Dias two goal blitz propelled FC Goa to a well deserved 4-0 win over Vasco Sport Club in the 11th round match of the GFA’s Professional League, at Duler Stadium, here on Monday.
FC Goa needing a win to consolidate their league standing scored two goals in each half through Aaren D`Silva, Vincy Barretto while Nestor Dias got a brace in the second session.
By virtue of this win, FC Goa have 17 points from 10 matches while Vasco SC are on seven points.
The match was derailed of any action from both sides as the ball was mostly confined to the midfield for the first twenty minutes with FC Goa opening the scoring in the 24th minute.
A well drilled move than unlocked the tight Vasco defense when U-20 Sweden Fernandes released the ball to Flan Gomes whose cushion pass found Aaren D’Silva and the last man calmly slotted the ball into the net, 1-0.
It did not take long for FC Goa to consolidate their lead which came in the 39th minute when Vasco keeper Sanju Thapa made a mess off a low cross by Sweden and the ball rolled in the path of Vincy Barretto who stabbed the ball into the goal, 2-0.
FC Goa could have wrapped up the match with the third goal minutes before the half time whistle when Vincy Barretto collecting a long pass from skipper Leander DCunha busted towards the goal but unfortunately his shot missed the target by inches.
Vasco were a pale shadow and could not muster a single decent chance in the entire first session as coach Micky tried to bolster the attack in the second half introducing Mathew Colaco and Aliston DSouza but were denied by some resolute defending by Young Gaurs Brian Faria and Lalhmangaih Sanga.
Nestor Dias who was closely monitored by the Vasco defence managed to find the back of the net with a clever back heel from close range for FC Goa in the 69th minute off a corner taken by Brian Faria, 3-0.
FC Goa completed the rout from a neat combined move between Nestor Dias and his skipper Leander D’Cunha who sent a diagonal pass back to Nestor whose low grounder gave no chance to the diving Vasco keeper Sanju, 4-0.
