MARGAO: Asserting that the Gujarat model stinks of Godhra riots and smells of divisiveness, AICC general secretary Luizinho Faleiro on Tuesday said that only a Goa model can ensure peace, harmony and communal amity in the country.
“Gujarat mode will destroy the tradition of peace and community amity. The Gujarat model cannot take the country ahead. We want a Goa model in the country to ensure peace and harmony amongst various sections of the society”, Faleiro said, while addressing Congress workers at his Borda residence on Tuesday evening called to drum up support to Reginaldo Lourenco’s candidature. “Goa is a model before the entire country and not Gujarat. Unlike Gujarat, Goa has no record of communal riots. While Goa is progressing on the economic front with good social indicators, Gujarat is going backwards on all fronts, be it economy, education, health and agriculture. While the farmers are crying in Gujarat, the crorepatis and industrialists are smiling”, he said.
Saying that the Gujarat model represents a culture of hatred and divisiveness, Faleiro said the country is looking for a leader today who will keep India together. “After Godhra riots, the Gujarat model in being replicated in Muzzafarnagar in Uttar Pradesh. Modi’s right-hand man Amit Shah is creating trouble in UP today”, Faleiro said, while making a humble plea to the congress workers to organise themselves and ensure victory of the Congress candidate in the Lok Sabha poll.
He reminded the Navelim workers that though the High command had offered the South Goa Lok Sabha ticket to him, he declined to take it given the responsibilities shouldered on him by Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.
Faleiro’s decision to campaign for the Congress candidate in Navelim segment in particular and South Goa in general has evoked response from his workers. A number of known anti-Churchill faces, who had supported Independent MLA Avertano Furado, were conspicuous
by their presence at
today’s meeting.
