MARGAO: Lohia Maidan of Margao must be made into a national monument which inspires all Goans, said Raja Sabha Member of Parliament and AITC National Vice-President Luizinho Faleiro.
On the occasion of Goa Revolution Day, Goa TMC today paid tribute to martyrs and freedom fighters who have laid down their lives for Goa’s independence, in presence of AITC National Vice-President Luizinho Faleiro, AITC Goa in-charge Kirti Azad, and Goa TMC Core Committee Co-ordinator Rajendra Kakodkar and others at Lohia Maidan in Margao.
Luizinho said that Dr Ram Manohar Lohia was instrumental in the liberation movement of Goa and it was here at Lohia Maidan on June 18, 1946 where he appealed to all the Goans to fight for their civil liberties.
While paying floral tributes, AITC Goa in-charge Kirti Azad said, “Goa TMC recalls the valorous sacrifice of all our brave freedom fighters and martyrs. The seed of liberation was sown by Dr Lohia and Dr Juliao Menezes; they were responsible for igniting the flames of revolution which eventually led to Goa’s independence on December 19, 1961”.
Slamming the Pramod Sawant-led BJP government for disrespecting the sanctity of Lohia Maidan, Azad said, “The BJP government must celebrate Goa Revolution Day at Lohia Maidan”.
“I am saddened to see that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant is continuing to erase the legacy of Dr Lohia and other freedom fighters”, expressing his anguish, he further said.
